As the Headteacher of Valentines High School, I am delighted to welcome you to our website. I know that a new Headteacher can be a big change for a school, so I wanted to introduce myself as soon as possible.
I have been a teacher for over 20 years, beginning my career in Essex. I have been a teacher at Valentines High School for fourteen years, starting as Head of Department before moving into the Leadership Group ten years ago. In this time I have played a significant part in determining the vision and direction of the school and am looking forward to leading our outstanding work in the future. At the school the traditional values of discipline, respect and good behaviour are combined with leading edge practice in teaching and learning. We strive for every member of the school community to be the very best they can be. Our aim is to help our students develop into happy, educated young people with the desire and drive to succeed. We work hard to prepare our students to be good citizens who are prepared for life beyond school in modern Britain. I look forward to meeting you at upcoming school events.
As a high performing Teaching School we strive to offer the very best facilities for our students. These include a sixth form block, state of the art physical education facilities including an astro-turf pitch and tennis courts, a gym and sports hall, a drama studio, a music room and a set of new science labs in our main building.
As a Teaching School the government has recognised our high performing status so that we can offer professional training to all our staff. This helps to further raise academic standards. Valentines supports other schools and teacher training at all levels in the area. Valentines is also a Leading Edge School. We are truly at the ‘cutting edge’ of new educational developments and leave no stone unturned in seeking ways to further enhance the educational experience of each and every one of our students.
Our school motto is ‘In harmony, achieving excellence’ and everything we do is planned to enable us to achieve this vision. Our behaviour code focuses on respect for oneself and for others. We emphasise the importance of Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education in an environment where all faiths and cultures are respected. Our most recent Ofsted inspection placed us in the very highest category – ‘Outstanding’ in every section of the report. Outstandingly good attitudes to learning and behaviour, outstanding quality of teaching and outstanding results were all noted, as was the outstanding harmony achieved in our diverse school community. Valentines has improved even further since the inspection. We value our good relationships with parents, well-wishers, the local community and our national and international educational partners.
Whatever your reason for accessing this website, I hope that you will find it stimulating and informative and that it will inspire you to find out more about the school of which I am so proud.
