Annual Salary: £22,000 - £25,000 (depending on experience)
Time Commitment: Term time only. This position is full-time during the term.
Hours: 8.30am-4.45pm, five days a week
Reports to: Assistant Head

The West London Free School is looking for an enthusiastic individual who can create, deliver and review a pastoral curriculum in collaboration with Assistant Headteacher and Pastoral Team, in response to the needs and issues of students.

General Duties

  • Work closely with the Assistant Head to contribute to the management of pupil behaviour, maintain order and an appropriate working environment, including implementation of the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Report to the Assistant Head on the behaviour of pupils during lessons and in the inclusion centre and any issues arising.
  • Establish and promote productive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Liaise closely with Assistant Head, Learning Mentors and other teachers regarding work set for pupils in isolation.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with teachers and other relevant professionals, to support pupils learning and progress.
  • Provide feedback to Assistant Head on the progress of individual pupils and contribute to the future planning of work.
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others to ensure all pupils are engaged on a set task.
  • Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide literacy/numeracy support to allow access to the curriculum.
  • Manage records for the Inclusion Centre as required by the Assistant Head.
  • Any other jobs asked for by the Assistant Head.

Selection Criteria


  • Experience working with young people in a pastoral role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a professional team for the benefit of pupils.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Good verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated IT skills, particularly with MS Office.
  • Eligibility to be issued with a DBS through the school.

Qualification as a Teaching Assistant or Youth Worker.
